Principal Software Engineer


Position Overview

Outerwall is seeking an experienced and highly productive Principal Software Engineer to lead our team working on cutting edge technologies for our New Ventures. The successful candidate will be the go-to person responsible for successful design, delivery and implementation of .NET applications to our kiosks. Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and strong technical and problem solving skills are essential aspects of this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the team lead for all areas of software development, including requirements analysis, planning, object model design, database scheme design, root-cause analysis, deployment, testing, and, of course, programming
  • Maintain and enhance WPF .NET application on Outerwall kiosks using C#, WPF, XAML, MVVM, PRISM
  • Maintain and enhance WCF .NET REST web services using C#, XML, WCF, LINQ
  • Maintain and enhance ASP.NET web application using C#, MVC, JSON, JavaScript
  • Design and implement SQL Server stored procedures, SSIS packages and SSRS reports
  • Actively participate in team processes and use of methodologies, including customized flavors of Agile and Extreme/Lean programming
  • Lead code walk-throughs to ensure coding standards are adhered to
  • Create technical specifications to describe the architecture, design and functionality of software components under development
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive, up-to-date, project technical documentation (requirements, lessons learned, etc.)
  • Make necessary recommendations for software framework to support new product developments
  • Anticipate technical project bottlenecks/risks; have mitigation and escalation plans in place before they are needed
  • Collaborate with senior technical staff to understand and drive technical solutions
  • Support the installation and troubleshooting of prototype kiosks installed in the field
  • Represent the team as subject matter expert within the department and the organization
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to other staff members; shares knowledge to build bench strength

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor degree in computer science, electrical engineering or equivalent experience
  • 12+ years proven success designing, implementing and maintaining software projects of significant size and complexity
  • 5+ years of in .NET application development, including C#
  • Experience creating applications using technologies including C#, .NET 4.0, Web Services, XML, SQL Server, MSMQ, JavaScript, and MVC
  • Experience with Test Driven Development, automated unit-tests and mocking frameworks (e.g. Moles or Rhino Mocks)
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum development mythology

  • Proficient at developing application specifications, various object and data-modeling techniques, database design, test-driven development, quality assurance best practices, and implementation support
  • Energetic and adaptable contributor to SCRUM development proces
  • Self-directed and results-oriented; able to work under pressure of deadlines
  • Supports team members to increase overall effectiveness of the team
  • Capacity to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Creative problem-solving skills, producing the ability to identify and resolve project roadblocks as they arise
  • Strong organization and communications skills; must clearly communicate technical issues and resolutions to key stakeholders, both orally as well as in writing
